Challenge

Documaster uses the entire HubSpot system (CRM, sales, marketing, and customer service) and has hosted their website in HubSpot since 2016. Over time, various developers and marketers have worked differently within the CMS, leading to a lack of overview and documentation.

Additionally, Documaster lacked a design system, which made it difficult to design and develop new elements. As a result, there was a need to expand the illustration library with the same playful style as the existing illustrations.

 

Solution

The goal was not only to clean up previous work but also to optimize the website for visitors and customers so they could easily find the information they needed.

 

Based on the challenges, this resulted in three different projects:  

  • Design System
  • Website Project
  • New Illustrations

The new website design was built on a design system in Figma. A design system is a framework that helps businesses manage their identity and services consistently across all channels.

After implementing the new design system, we needed to create a new information architecture for the website. We organized the existing content into a logical structure that was easy for users to navigate.

 

Redesign – From Custom Coded to Modular-Based

We redesigned the website with brighter colors while still staying close to the existing identity. Our designers created a visually explanatory set of illustrations to help customers quickly understand the features of their products.

We then created modular variants based on elements that could be used on the new website. By combining these modules, the customer could easily and quickly build a new page in the CMS.

In addition to creating a new website design, we also implemented all the changes in the code. The main changes included moving pages to a flexible template with "drag-and-drop" functionality. Reusable components were also developed in the theme (HubSpot macros).

 

Easier for Developers with Test and Production Environments

The project is set up in a way that makes it easier for multiple developers to work together. A test environment and a production environment were also established, helping to streamline the process when developing and testing new functionality before going live.

Additionally, the project uses version control with GitHub, ensuring good control over change logs and collaboration on code.

Results

The final result is a website that leverages HubSpot's potential, with easier management and development, making it simpler for all users—whether editor, designer, or developer. Additionally, a design system was created to ensure brand consistency, along with new illustrations that can be used across all platforms.
