Overview

Norwegian Airlines embarked on a redesign of their in-flight safety brochures to enhance clarity in safety communications, strengthen brand recognition, and align with the updated Norwegian visual identity. Previously using 3D illustrations, which proved ineffective at smaller sizes, the airline identified an opportunity to modernize both style and representation.

This redesign aimed to provide a more neutral portrayal of people, addressing feedback that previous illustrations leaned toward a specific ethnicity and idealized body type, which some passengers found exclusionary.

Style and Identity

To integrate Norwegian’s identity seamlessly, we used the brand’s signature red, white, and blue palette throughout the illustrations. The new design combines elements of illustration and iconography, creating a simplified style optimized for smaller formats.
This approach complements Norwegian's established visual language, including their pictograms. By using large color blocks, inversions, and contour lines, we created a clear and accessible visual experience that subtly conveys complex forms, making safety instructions easy to follow and brand-aligned.
