While the Olympics celebrate human achievement and breaking boundaries, WWF’s "The Climate Games" launched just before the games to remind the world of the environmental records that have marked the past year in devastating ways.
The year 2023 was the hottest on record, with unprecedented temperature heights and extreme weather events across the globe. Greece experienced Europe’s largest-ever wildfire, Mozambique saw the longest-lasting tropical cyclone in African history, and 77 other countries set new national heat records.
"The Climate Games" campaign ran across digital platforms leading up to the Olympics, with a powerful film airing on French television. It was also featured in outdoor ad spaces, while WWF offices globally used key Olympic moments to share local climate data on social media, drawing parallels between breaking sports records and breaking climate records."
Through "The Climate Games," WWF successfully highlighted the pressing need for climate action, using the spirit of the Olympics to highlight that not all records are worth celebrating.
