HubSpot was started in 2006 by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah, while they were both professors of entrepreneurship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The two professors had more faith in a new and different approach: With good and interesting content, presented in the right place and at the right time, you could effectively attract potential customers and increase the chances of a sale.
To test the idea in practice, Halligan and Shah developed tools to help businesses with blogging and search engine optimization. This is how the story of the company we know today as HubSpot began.
